Panchakarma and Thokkanam Department:

C. OTHER KIZHIS

Other types of kizhi are recommended for specific conditions. Mutta Kizhi is a form of treatment where boiled eggs and herbal powders are made into pouches and then applied to the body, along with hot medicated oils. Mutta Kizhi is very effective in facial paralysis and hemiplegia.

Naranga Kizhi is done with linen bags containing cut and fried pieces of lime, garlic, dill seed powder and rock salt. It is a method of therapeutic sweating and as moderate heat is required to sweat, the bundles have to be warmed up periodically by dipping in warm medicated oil.

Mamsakizhi is type of massage that uses kizhis containing meat and oil. This is especially advised in degenerative conditions of muscles.

4. NJAVARA KIZHI:

It is a process by which the whole body or any specific part thereof is made to perspire by the application of certain medical puddings (made from Glutinous Rice) externally in the form of poultices. During the massage these bags are frequently dipped in the mixture of milk and herbal decoction. It is a therapeutic procedure for nerve weakness and wastage of muscles.

Pizhichil or Sarvangdhara as a special procedure of methodologically pouring warm liquids over the entire body.warm medicated oil is squeezed all over the body with the help of cloth pieces, which are periodically dipped into vessels containing medicated oil.

6. SIRODHARA:
SIRODHARA

Popularly known as third eye treatment of lord Shiva, a therapeutic Marma head massage with herbal oils is done and herbal oil, medicated milk or herbal decoction is poured in gently and steadily over the forehead in a continuous stream using a special rhythmic swaying movement. This results in a fantastic sense of deep relaxation and inner peace. It works on cerebral system, helps in relaxing the nervous system and balancing the Prana Vayu around the head. It improves the function of five senses, helps in insomnia, stress, anxiety, depression, hair loss, fatigue, imbalance of Vata and makes one calm and fresh.

Shirodhara is a purifying and rejuvenating therapy designed to eliminate toxins and mental exhaustion as well as relieve stress and any ill effects on the central nervous system.

Shirodhara is a unique form of ancient therapy of pouring oil on the forehead from a specific height and for a specific period continuously and arithmetically allowing the oil torun through the scalp and into the hair.

This is a subtype of Murdhataila which means keeping the medicated oil on the head region. The types of Murdhataila other than Shirodhara are Shiro Abhyanga, Pichu and Shiro Basti. 8. NETRA THARPANA: Ayurvedic Eye Rejuvenation:
NETRATHARPANA

This treatment aims to provide optimum rejuvenation to eyes. Dough of ulunthu / Urad (black gram) is put around the eye ball in such a way that a dam like appearance is seen. Then herbal healing ghee or oil (clarified butter oil) is put in this groove to lubricate eye and surrounding areas which will be kept warm for 30 – 35 minutes. NASYAM

The administration of drugs through the nose is called Nasya. Nasya is particularly useful in the treatment of diseases occurring in the organs situated above the clavicle. It will promote the functions of the sensory and motor organs above the clavicle. It specifically provides strength to the head, nose and neck. Indirectly it works on the whole body by improving the functioning of the endocrine glands. It will prevent premature wrinkling, graying and falling of the hair.
